The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, announced his intention to hold a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on July 22. The Russian minister shared this information during a conversation with journalists on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, as reported by Russian media.
According to Lavrov, the meeting is scheduled for the first half of the day. He noted that one of the topics of discussion will be “President Donald Trump’s remarks regarding the possibility of a swift resolution” to the war in Ukraine.
Rubio, in comments to the media, stated that the war in Ukraine complicates the US’s search for dialogue with Russia on other issues. Against this backdrop, according to the US Secretary of State, it “would be good” for Moscow if this war stopped, writes Clash Report on Telegram.

“The United States remains open and ready to play a constructive role in ending this war… Russia and we are the two largest nuclear-armed countries in the world. It would be irresponsible and foolish if we did not communicate. We must maintain relations with the Russian government,” Rubio added.
Peace negotiations – important news
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Russia had abandoned the idea of an exchange of territories, which was allegedly agreed upon during the meeting between Trump and Putin in Anchorage. According to journalists, Moscow now aims to seize the Donetsk and Luhansk regions by force. The Kremlin intends to keep the territories in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions under its control as a “buffer zone.”
Meanwhile, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that former high-ranking officials from Russia and Germany held secret negotiations in Baku. It was noted that the topic of the meeting was the conclusion of the war in Ukraine. According to Aliyev, the country’s authorities were not informed about this meeting. He drew these conclusions based on flight data.
